Is print on demand allowed on Etsy?
Yes, when the item meets Etsy’s creativity standards. Etsy permits sellers to use a production partner to produce an item from the seller’s original design. The seller must disclose the production partner in the listing where required. POD is not a shortcut for reselling someone else’s mass-produced design. Etsy’s rules can change, so read the current policy before publishing.
Set up the partner correctly
Choose your fulfillment provider, connect your shop using its current integration flow and add the production partner information in Etsy. Etsy distinguishes a production partner from a seller’s own creative role. Describe your role honestly: you design the apparel and the partner prints and ships it. Use the provider’s actual production location and shipping settings rather than guessing.
Write for an apparel buyer
The first images should show the real fit and design clearly. Include garment measurements, fabric, available colors, print size or placement, care and a realistic delivery estimate. If a mockup is used, make sure it accurately represents the finished item. Order a sample so you know whether the print, garment and packaging meet your brand promise.
Protect the economics
Work backward from Etsy fees, the garment and print cost, shipping, tax, anticipated replacements and any paid promotion. A price that looks profitable before marketplace fees can be weak after them. Start with a small collection you can explain well, then use questions and conversion data to improve each listing.
What should a new seller avoid?
Avoid listing hundreds of near-identical designs before learning which garment, photograph and message customers respond to. Etsy’s rules focus on the seller’s creative role and transparent production-partner disclosure. A generic graphic you did not create, sold through a production partner, is not made original by uploading it to a mockup.
Also distinguish dispatch from delivery. If your partner needs time to make the item, build that into the processing profile. A buyer comparing two tees may accept made-to-order timing; they are less likely to accept a surprise delay after paying.
